Looking at both cartridges - Brother TN330 and 360 physically, no amount of difference is distinguishable except for the actual amount of toner infused into the cartridge. The TN360 toner cartridge carries around 100 grams of toner, while a TN330 is infused with only 60 grams, thus both cartridge units consequently deliver 2,600 and 1,500 printed pages respectively, based on the Industry standard 5% coverage. The cost of the cartridges also varies the high yield OEM TN360 is available for around $60, while the standard yield brother TN330 toner is only for $30.

Loading. Actually the cartridges can be interchanged. The Brother DCP 7030 or the DCP7040 and several other laser printers for instance can load either the TN360 or the TN330, depending on which cartridge are available. Note that the OEM cartridge is not readily available at reseller outlets. What differentiates one cartridge from the other is the reset gear installed inside the unit. The reset gear (not a killer chip) is the mechanism inside a Brother toner cartridge that automatically shuts the printer off once the allowed number of printed pages had been breached.

Reset Gear. The TN360 toner cartridge depends on the high yield reset gear to print 2,600 pages while the Brother TN330 comes with the low yield reset gear mechanism to deliver only 1,500 pages. Again, the reset gear mechanism can also be interchanged because if the user wants the brother TN330 toner cartridge to print 2,600 pages, the LY reset gear has to be substituted with a HY reset gear. These upgrade and downgrade arrangement likely gives users the option depending on their printing requirements.

Recycling. The mentioned setup is applicable every time the cartridges are recycled using toner refill kits because a kit can be both low yield or high yield and can be supplied not only with a 100 gram replacement toner but also a high yield reset gear. Besides, most users prefer to instigate toner refills on an empty Brother TN330/360 toner cartridge rather than purchase a replacement OEM cartridge. Economy is the primary reason because a refill kit is absolutely lower in cost. The brother TN330 toner refill kit retails for $13 while toner refill kit for Brother-TN360 cartridges comes much cheaper at $9. The user saves as much as 55% for refilling the TN330 and 85% for the TN360.

Finally, both the OEM and refill toner product are manufactured using the same line of processes, thus assuring toner refill kit users that print quality and yield to be expected will be similar to the OEM. Considering that a Brother TN330/360 is not jelly but durable and can last at least 4 toner refills, amount saved in toner consumable expense is about 4 times over as well.

The difference between a Brother TN330 and TN360 is only the print capacity or yield in printed pages.
