Scanning can be done in either color or black-and-white. Optical scan resolution is about 600 x 2400 dpi. Images can be exported to TIFF, BMP, MAX, JPG, PDF, or PNG, and the machine's "scan to" feature allows you to choose email, image, OCR, or file.

HP LaserJet Toner Cartridges - 3 Components That Make It Leak-Free

Aside from giving users hassle-free printing performance, an ideal HP LaserJet toner cartridge must be leak-free. This is mainly because when toner leaks inside the printer, it does not only cause defects over printouts but also hastens the deterioration of printer components. Particularly when toner is left to leak indefinitely, it coats sensitive printer components, which therefore affects vital functions and eventually damages the HP laser printer, leading to expensive maintenance procedures or part replacements.

Toner leaks could happen in several ways if cartridge seals are not thoroughly provided and if cartridge-cleaning mechanisms are worn out or have already developed distortion after long hours of use. Therefor, it becomes mandatory for users to check the printer regularly since toner particles are so small that any deviation from factory specified tolerances could cause toner to leak inside the HP laser printer.

HP LaserJet toner cartridges are built leak-free to allow unhampered printing performance, minimum user intervention and reduced maintenance costs. Here are three of the innovations introduced into HP toner cartridges, which therefore make it free of leaks.

1. Magnetic seals are an indispensable part of the cartridge. This innovation made by HP traps toner particles and renders toner leaks inside the printer outdated. Since magnetic seals are installed in the factories and tested in laboratories, the magnetic seals need to be replaced reliable replacement peripherals. In addition, if users are using refill kits, they must see to it that cartridges are replaced at the first sign of leaks caused by a damaged seal.

2. A reliable wiper blade that automatically cleans the OPC Drum of toner after every printing cycle is supplied with the HP LaserJet toner cartridges, particularly the type where the OPC (organic photo receptive) Drum is bundled together with the toner supply chamber. This totally frees the OPC Drum surface of excess toner and eliminates the risk of toner contaminating vital HP laser printer components, while also delivering prints that are devoid of irregularities.

3. A recovery blade is also added to the cartridgesince excess toner scraped from the OPC Drum could also leak if not channeled directly into the built-in toner waste chamber.

The users of HP LaserJet toner cartridges are amply protected against toner leaking freely into the different components of the HP laser printer.

In the end, if you want hassle free printing performance, you must pick the product with magnetic seals and all other similar innovations introduced by HP into its toner cartridges.

How to Replace Your Toner Cartridge Wiper Blade and Avoid Print Ghosting and Streaking

The 'all in one' HP toner cartridge is a sophisticated piece of printing accessory that is technically engineered to deliver hassle-free printing. As such, each major component of the toner cartridge is expected to last theoretically three to four times more than the amount of toner loaded to the cartridge. To streamline the electro-photographic printing process, each component is aided with recovery or wiper bladesto sweep or clean excess toner, which is devised intentionally of softer materials to lessen surface wear as each component rotates on its axis.

Considering the design material, the 'all in one' HP toner cartridge particularly the type that prints over 5,000 pages, may suffer irregularities in its life cycles. The reason as mentioned above is that the cleaning blades can never outlast any of the major toner cartridge components. Thus, when print irregularities start to appear, the user is obliged to troubleshoot and replace all of the minor cartridge parts such as the wiper blades, which have worn out ahead of the major component to experience hassle-free printing continuously.

How does a wiper blade work? It is similar to wiper blades in cars that sweep dust, rain, and snow on the windshield to maintain the driver's road visibility. In laser printers, wiper blades attached to the OPC (organic photoconductive) Drum does the same function as it cleans or sweep the OPC Drum surface of excess toner. Thus, when the wiper blade is efficient, it prevents ghosting or streaking from ever happening on the printouts. However, this happens only to toner cartridges subjected in high volume printing and seldom manifests in average printing frequencies.

Replacement of the wiper blade is a part of the normal HP toner cartridge maintenance protocol, since supplies of OEM parts are readily available. The following procedures will guide you on how to replace the damaged wiper blade.
Unload the 'all in one' toner cartridge from the printer and gently place it over a flat sturdy surface with the OPC Drum up.
Separate the two halves by pushing the stainless steel pins out and slightly tapping it with a punch from the inside part of the cartridge.
The wiper blade should now be visible; remove the blade by loosening out the two screws that hold it together. Take out the new replacement wiper bladefrom the kit and lightly coat it with Kynar drum padding powder before mounting it to the cartridge.
Check the physical status of the recovery blade just beside it since it is made from Mylar and could easily distort after long use; replace it as well if extensively damaged.
Reassemble the loose parts together, reload the cartridge to the printer, and commence printing.

Remember that the technically advanced 'all in one' HP toner cartridge has its own share of maintenance problems, which could easily be remedied to lessen printing down time.

Next time streaking and ghosting appear in the printouts, initiate maintenance by replacing the wiper blade to continue the hassle-free printing experience.

Making the Right Decision about Toner Cartridges

The prices of inkjet printers and laserjet printers have never been lower. Similar to video console manufacturers who sell gaming consoles at below cost, knowing that they'll make enormous profits from the sale of video games, manufacturers of inkjets and laserjets sell their products at a low cost, knowing that they will profit tremendously from the sale of inkjet and toner cartridges. Indeed, it's been said that you'd have to spend over $5 billion to fill a swimming pool with ink from manufacturers' cartridges.

The expense of the cartridge is compounded by the growing use of inkjet and laserjet printers. The popularity of digital cameras has grown exponentially in the past five years, and consumers are increasingly opting to print out their digital photos at home. Businesses are utilizing desktop publishing software and high quality printers to produce brochures and marketing materials that they would normally send out to be printed. Likewise, everyone from scout troop leaders to health educators are using available technology to tailor educational content that can be printed on the fly using inkjet and laserjet printers.

This means that the market for inkjet and toner cartridges is booming. It also means that, in order to make an informed decision, the consumer needs to understand the emerging issues in the cartridge wars. To wit:

Black and white vs. color: When you go to buy a printer, you may be stunned at the number of brand options, which include InfoPrint, DocuPrint, WorkCentre, OfficeJet, Optra, and more. If you're primarily going to print documents, a printer with only a black cartridge will suffice. If, on the other hand, you're planning to regularly print photographs or brochures, a color printer might be a better option. If you decide upon a color printer, you'll further be able to choose from among printers that have a four-color cartridge, a six-color cartridge, or even more colors.

Manufacturer's brand vs. generic: Some manufacturers insist that only their proprietary cartridges are optimized for your printer. On the other hand, there are many who view that stance as simply a way for manufacturers to rake in the dollars, and who say that refilled or generic cartridges perform the same function for less money.

The coverage question: Many consumers experience sticker shock when they buy replacement cartridges for their inkjet or laserjet printers. Depending upon what you print, you may be in for a greater shock when your cartridge runs out of ink in a very short time. Typically, when a cartridge package indicates that the cartridge will print a certain number of pages, the assumption is that only five percent of the page will have ink on it - typical for a word processing document. If you're printing pictures, though, you're getting ink coverage of 100 percent, so your ink cartridge will run dry much more quickly.

Paper vs. ink: When it comes to ink cartridge quality, your photo or document will only look as good as the paper it's printed on. This especially applies to photos, where poor paper can cause an image to look muddy.

Skin Care - What is More Beneficial For Skin Care, Toner Or Moisturizer?

For years, skin care specialists have been debating about facial toners, in fact today most of them are very confident that the toners are not required for toning and cleansing skin. Earlier there were several reasons given as to why a facial toner would be one of the indispensable. The reasons were:

A toner would be useful in removing any traces of facial cleanser. A toner can replenish moisture lost during the process of cleansing, it can pacify enlarged pores and bring these to normal size after cleansing. A toner can also work as a cleanser. Using a toner with a cotton ball was considered most effective method of using it. A toner can tighten and provide certain body to the skin, something that would entirely be necessary if you want a healthy young looking skin. Overall, a toner can make you look and feel fresh.

However, today many skin care specialists say that the toner is an entirely unnecessary part of your routine and you can do away with it. Washing away of the facial cleanser traces can be done by just a little bit of extra washing. Moisturizing of skin can be done through the use of good quality moisturizer which can give your skin a firm look and also make it look fresh and lively.

Though toners are no more a necessity, some women enjoy the touch and feel and also the smell of this accessory. They love to use it and feel pampered. If you love toners you should ensure that these do not contain alcoholic content, which could irritate skin rather than smoothen it.

Moisturizers are being used instead of toners. Care needs to be taken so as not to use those which can lead to greasy and oily skin. Moisturizers need to be effective and easily absorbed into the skin. Quality skin care companies manufacture moisturizers which are not just moisturizing the skin rather these also nourish skin. They combine within themselves several nourishing agents which can replenish lost nutrients.

Skin care is good with a moisturizer; you can use toner to pamper yourself.

Use MICR Toner to Print Your Checks - Secure Your Checks the Easy Way

How many of you out there in cyberspace today own their own business? My guess is that almost half or maybe even more than that do own their own business. If you do own or manage a business, my guess is that you deal with checks on a daily basis right?

Now we get to my second question in this article, how many of you print your own checks? Again, my guess is that the majority of you DO print your own checks and knowingly, if you are smart about it, you are using MICR toner to make those checks secure.

Today we will be discussing a little bit about MICR toner and the benefits of using this type of toner to print your checks for your business. Maybe even some of you who are reading this and don't own a business will probably consider using MICR toner and printing your own personal checks to save you money and add a personal touch.

First we should provide an explanation of just what exactly MICR toner is, MICR is actually an acronym for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. The MICR toner is a special type of printing which is used for encoding, sorting and reading the checks and deposit slips at banks.

The MICR toner cartridge characters are easily recognizable by the series of numbers that are on the bottom of a check that the banks will use to process and route the payments. In using this specialized MICR toner, each and every font character is magnetically charged and read by a couple of very fast speed machines, which in turn will convert the Magnetic Toner's charge into the digital data which you will see.

Each check that is deposited into an account is sorted and read many times over by these high speed and high powered machines, so you can be rest assured that a high quality MICR toner is very important to the whole process.

Now you might be asking yourself what are the benefits to you as a client using a MICR laser check system? Many people have said that they have noticed the following benefits since switching to MICR printing:

- They have noticed that the MICR laser check processing gives them a much higher and more thorough sense of security.

- They have noticed a reduction in costs because of the fact that they could control the pre-printed check stock, therefore reducing needless inventory.

- They find that setting up a MICR Laser check is an easy one-step procedure that will add the bank identification, payee info, signatures, logo, and finally the MICR line to the check, all child's play say these happy clients.

- The customers have also stated that they love the fact that they have the freedom to change, delete or add new bank accounts when they have to without having to order new check stock and waiting forever for the new checks to come in.

- The customers have also raved that they have found that they have much less exposure to check fraud then they had before.

Toner Recycling - The Disposable Society

When I received my shiny new Lexmark laser printer - toner recycling was instantly brought to my attention for a variety of reasons. Firstly there was the inclusion of some nice toner recycling bags with pictures of trees and forests all over them, secondly barely two weeks later my toner cartridge had run out of ink.

Now I was quite shocked about this - I don't print a lot and had expected a laser printer to cut my printing costs slightly and reduce the aggravation of replacing toner cartridges all the time. The reason I discovered was that the cartridges supplied with my laser printer - where (get this) starter cartridges - basically they have produced sealed toner cartridges and put a tiny proportion of ink inside them. So they were now finished and needed to be recycled in their eco-friendly schemes. The environmental impact of producing these cartridges had been already incurred - approximately 2 litres of oil per cartridge but because they had virtually no ink in them that had been pretty much wasted.

If you buy a new laser printer beware you may have the same 'starter cartridges' inside your printer. I am afraid I was not very impressed with this - I mean why not just charge a little more for the printer and fill the toner cartridges up properly so they don't need to be recycled virtually immediately.

Don't get me wrong - when a cartridge reaches the end of it's useful life then toner recycling is the sensible option but the printer manufacturers are deliberately reducing the life span of these cartridges simply to make more money (and basically completely ignoring the environmental costs).

A laser toner cartridge could easily be used several times over if the ink could be refilled but the manufacturers took away the refill hole on most and replaced with a toner recycling bag. When companies like Tonertop up below made kits to refill the cartridges anyway - some manufacturers started putting computer chips which expired after so many prints (fortunately these can also be replaced). This is basically the same as putting a chip in your car so it won't work after 20,000 miles so you have to buy a new one !

The issue shows how so many big companies pay lip service to environmental issues and their priorities certainly don't lie in this area. Perhaps we can't blame them after all they are in business to make money not save the environment. It perhaps does lie with us the consumer to buck this trend - please check out how easy it is to reuse your toner cartridges by refilling them with ink before you even need toner recycling.

Must Know Facts About Toner Cartridges

The cost of purchasing toner cartridges has virtually gone down with time owing to the availability of remanufactured cartridges. Various brands of cartridges are in the market whether inkjet or laser printers from different manufacturing companies. While there are printer cartridges that sell at affordable prices, many clients have failed to attain their objective since they are constantly duped into buying fake products that do not meet the standard of printing supplies. Getting cost effective toner cartridges is not the ultimate search, it is worth the cost when they meet the needs for which a user purchases them. Compatible cartridges can be rare but the necessary contents have to be intact even with a toner refill. A user must have the facts at hand before buying and using the equipment.

There are attractive products of printer supplies online and many clients can now access relevant information and to acquire them comfortably. Toner cartridges are used in laser printers and photocopiers for image structuring on printing paper. Initially, they used carbon powder but later carbon was fused with polymers to give superb printouts. The heat generated from the fuser would melt the elements in toner cartridges for attachment to paper. Different producers have varying polymers used in inkjet refill but it is significant to get a compatible cartridge for reliability. Many clients do opt for new products that emerge in the market without considering the make of machine and the volume of work that a particular workstation should yield. It is worth sticking with regular cartridges than going for unpopular brands that could be harmful to the printers and other machines.

In the cases of cartridge refill, the process hardly alters the chemical content of the toner cartridges. Their formulations vary slightly with respect to manufacturers and machines used. Some products come with appliances supplied with relevant equipment from producers; they save users from mixing up the polymers. Users must seek the advice and go for consistent shapes of particles as supplied with toner cartridges. Printing supply would work well with consistent appliances in order to yield the best reproduction and results from the printed-paper. Shopping for recycled cartridges can be a success if the devices work well with the machines and easy to replace as soon as they are finished.

Manufacturers under their respective brand names more often process toner cartridges. Such products are usually reliable and easy to identify in the stores. They classify as Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) from companies such as Canon OEM, Epson OEM, Brother OEM, and HP OEM among others. Nevertheless, the recycled cartridges usually assume the identity of the recycling company with their genuine assurance. Toner cartridges get more effective concerning the performance of a respective company in the realm of printer supplies. It is relatively faster to develop pages as compared to laser cartridges. Toner refill kits would make the whole exercise of printing quite economical over other methods. Replacing toners becomes easier when one uses the same cases to get the desired goal.

Toner cartridges will always pay less at Absolute Toner; however, we offer reputable ink cartridges for your printers. We do not offer "cheap" imitation printers. for more info toner cartridges in Canada.

Given this highly satisfactory alternative, it makes no sense to spend more needlessly for new ones.

If you are still unconvinced, consider this added benefit. Using re-manufactured HP 1012 toner and ink cartridges is environmentally responsible! After all, using remanufactured supplies is another way of recycling and reduces waste in landfills and dumps. As plastic does not quickly break down, plastic waste is semi-permanent in landfills. By purchasing re-manufactured supplies, you conserve money and the environment at the same time.

Of course, not every HP 1012 toner remanufacturer is equally scrupulous in its quality management, and you'll want to be sure that you're purchasing a fully functional refurbished product. Check print cartridges carefully for obvious defects such as dents, scratches, and streaks. A defective cartridge cannot be expected to print well and should be returned to the seller for refund or exchange.

Numerous sellers have HP 1012 toner cartridges available, on the internet and in many retail stores. You can find remanufactured toner and ink cartridges selling for prices that are much lower than those of brand name cartridges. By searching on the web, you can comparison shop to find the best deals. You owe it to yourself to check out remanufactured cartridges when in the market for printer supplies, because a penny saved is a penny earned.

The HP printers generate quality print jobs quickly, making them a great, inexpensive investment for any business. This line of printers from HP has multiple different models available, with a plethora of outstanding features to meet the requirements of any busy company. One feature of this model is Toner for HP. This HP laserjet 1012 produces color of a quality on a par with jobs created by professional printers. Cost is the main shortcoming. The cost of the HP printer models can soar to over one thousand dollars. However, the quality of these printers makes the cost worth it.

Toner Cartridges a Right Decision

We have reached at a consensus that there is a conspiracy afloat. Every kind of printers from the inkjet printers to the toner printers is incredibly inexpensive. There seems to be more and more of a need for these toner cartridges in the market. Though cartridges are costly they have some compound technology in them that would make them cheaper over-all than it would be to keep restoring the printer heads.

There are three major classifications of inkjet and toner cartridges available in the market. They are Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) cartridges, re-manufactured cartridges, and compatible cartridges. OEM cartridges are those we normally find in our office supply stores. While compatible cartridges meet the specification as per the manufacturer for the ink or tone, re-manufactured cartridges are essentially, OEM cartridges that have been used, cleaned, refilled, and quality checked.

Toner cartridges are designed to deliver professional quality black image and text printing. The output is far superior to other printing solutions. There are certain misconceptions about the compatible toner cartridges; this article focuses on clarifying them.

o Compatible Toner cartridges are cheap cartridges.

A cheap toner cartridge doesn't mean that there is a compromise with the quality. These manufactured by the third party contain the exact toner required for the printer.

o Printer warranty will be void if a Compatible toner cartridge is used.

The government has passed legislation to ensure that it is illegal for a manufacturer to force you to buy certain supplies. This would lead to monopoly with high prices and lack of competition if allowed.

o A compatible toner cartridge will damage the printer.

It is highly unlikely but possible sometimes, for a toner cartridge to leak and cause streaking on the paper. This can be resolved by a simple cleaning and replacement of the toner cartridge.

Toner- The Hidden Cost in Any Printer Purchase

There's no denying that the cost of printers is low - unbelievably low, as a matter of fact. You can find brand-name photo printers for under a hundred dollars, and workhorse laser printers for under two hundred dollars. Color inkjet printers remain a bargain, starting at around a hundred and twenty-five dollars. If you're not careful, though, what you save in the purchase price of a printer goes down the drain when you have to buy replacement toner cartridges or ink cartridges.

When deciding which printer to buy, it pays to determine the cost per page printed. That cost is calculated by the cost of the cartridge you use. Let's say, for example, that you purchased a black and white Brother Laser Printer for $150 and an HP color inkjet printer for $150. A new Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) toner cartridge for the Brother printer costs about sixty-five dollars and will print about 2,500 pages. The black ink cartridge for the HP only costs about thirty dollars. Great deal, right? No, because the black ink cartridge will only print about 800 pages. The Brother cartridge will give you a cost per page of a little over two-and-a-half cents, whereas the HP cartridge ups the ante to three-and-three-quarters cents per page. That may not sound like a lot, but over the course of printing the equivalent of ten cartons of paper, or 50,000 pages, you'll pay $625 more for the HP ink than you will for the Brother toner.

But what if you're not in the market for a new printer, and are churning out page after page with the printer you now own? Chances are, you're paying a premium price for that Original Equipment Manufacturer LaserJet toner cartridge or inkjet printer cartridge. A great way to bring down your cost-per-page is to choose a less expensive option to replace your laser toner or inkjet ink. The two least costly options are compatible ink cartridges and re-manufactured ink cartridges.

Before you listen to the hyperbole from printer manufacturers that say that compatible and remanufactured cartridges will ruin your printer or produce inferior quality printed pages, ask yourself this: Don't printer manufacturers have an enormous economic stake in making sure you buy their brand name printer cartridges? Of course they do. They sell their printers at such a low cost precisely because they know that you'll need replacement print cartridges, from which they make huge profits.

Compatible laser toner and ink cartridges are made and sold by companies other than printer manufacturers. You can find reputable toner and inkjet cartridge sellers online who take pride in providing products that meet or exceed the specifications set forth by printer manufacturers. Compatible cartridges will work fine in your printer, and won't void your printer's warranty. Essentially, they consist of a previously used casing with all new parts and new toner or ink. Similarly, re-manufactured cartridges are previously used and refilled with toner or ink, but are rigorously tested to ensure their quality.

The bottom line is that toner is the hidden cost of any printer purchase. Why pay for your printer time and again by paying premium prices for OEM cartridges when you can save up to 76 percent of the cost by buying compatible or re-manufactured cartridges?

Toner Cartridges, Can We Recycle Better?

Printer Toner Cartridges create over 1.9 billion pounds of non-biodegradable waste. But when you buy a recycled toner cartridge you are helping save the planet, right? Well, yes and no. Certain popular cartridges are still being thrown into the landfills. Why?

There is an overabundance of certain popular virgin cartridges available. Virgin cartridges are empty toner cartridges that have never been recycled. Remanufactured toner cartridges using virgin cartridges cost less to remanufacture. This is because some of the components can be used another cycle. The drum and drum blade should always be replaced, but the other components are just fine to leave in most of the time. These components are marginal at best the third time around so the best thing to do is to replace them to lower the defect rate. Items such as the recovery blade, developer mag roller, developer drum spacers, seals and bearings can cost the manufacturer more money so they opt to use the virgin cartridges. It is a matter of simple economics.

I had a bunch of empty toner cartridges sitting in my garage but they had already been recycled. I wanted to get rid of them, so I called many different manufacturers in and out of my area. They all told me they didn't have any use for them. They said that they only had a value if they were virgin cartridges. I still wanted to get rid of the cartridges in my garage but I wasn't having any luck. Then I came across a company that helps you start a fund raiser by recycling toner cartridges and cell phones. Here is how it works. You save up all of the old toner cartridges and cell phones you can, then box them up. They give you free return shipping tags, you send them off and then wait till they send you a check! The prices are set for each cartridge and cell phone. I don't think you could get rich from this but it is a great fund raiser. Our fund raiser is to send kids to camp. If you are interested in the fund raiser I am talking about the company is called "CC Cash." Go to their website for details. http://www.cccashusa.com/. Set up is free of charge. They also make it easy by giving you boxes, flyers and posters for your fund raiser. It's a great way to recycle. I asked them how much they would give me for the empties I had. They said they could not give me any money but that I could ship them free of charge and they will be recycled.

Here is a way we can make recycling toner cartridges better. I believe millions of cartridges could be recycled if we would just take the time to find a home for them. It is easy to just toss them in the trash can. Yes, I have done it and maybe you have too. But you could start collecting different types of toner cartridges and send them back regardless if they give money for them. Just send them back. This could make a difference if just a few of us did it. We can do better at recycling toner cartridges and lowering the amount of non-biodegradable waste that goes into our landfills. We may be able to make some money while we are at it!

Remanufactured Toner Cartridges vs. OEM (original manufacturer) Cartridges

I have worked in the toner industry for over six years, and in that time have seen a good deal of change within the industry. The remanufacturing industry began as a drill and fill operation. Components were not changed; the cartridge was cleaned and refilled with toner. This led to poor print quality, defects, and cartridges that leaked toner into machines. Some companies continue with these practices today, but most have made a legitimate effort at selling a quality product.

Quality remanufactured toner cartridges are now available. Remanufactured toner cartridges can actually exceed OEM quality and yield. Extensive testing and R&D have enabled this industry to produce cartridges that will not only save the customer money, but also provide a better product.

As the customer, what should you ask potential vendors about their remanufactured cartridges?

1. What yield and density did the cartridges achieve in testing?

The yield is the amount of pages the cartridge produces before running out of toner. Make sure that the testing is performed at 5% page coverage. This is the industry standard. You can ask if they used a toner head, this is the best way to achieve 5% page coverage. Be careful with companies that just give you the OEM yield, they may not have actually done any testing.

The density measures how dark the text is. The density is usually between 1.3 and 1.6. Ask how many cartridges they test to achieve their numbers. Testing one cartridge does not give an accurate measurement. Also, ask how often they test their toner/drum combinations. Suppliers change toner qualities and continued testing is important to ensure quality.

2. Does the company change any components?

Ask if the company changes the drum, wiper blade and mag roller. These components are all very important to print quality. Some lower yield cartridges do not need to have their drums changed if they are properly tested, but anything over 4,000 pages should, at least, receive a new drum.

3. Does the company use a universal toner for all printers within a manufacturer?

Some suppliers try to save money by using one toner per printer model, i.e. one toner for all HP cartridges. This may not effect print quality, but it will effect yield. Each model of printer has different characteristics, which means different toners. An example of differing characteristics is the fusing temperature of the printers.

4. Are all of the companies cartridges post tested?

Some suppliers do not want to invest in all the printers, or do not do enough volume to make this affordable. This is the most important step. These cartridges have to be rebuilt by hand, which introduces human error. Forgetting one step can cause failures that can only be picked up in post-testing.

5. Does the company replace the label on the cartridge?

Some companies leave the OEM label on their cartridges; this is a copyright infringement. Other companies do not have any labels on their cartridges. This is legal, but can be confusing if you have different model printers. See if the company replaces the label with a new descriptive label, which should have the machine that the cartridge goes to on it.

Be careful of any company that will not provide you with this information. Many companies still do not have proper testing methods because of the cost. Also, beware of inexpensive cartridges. In the long run these will probably cost more, due to failures and poor print quality. Being informed is the best way to insure that you are getting the most for your money. Companies that supply a quality product will not hesitate to answer any questions you have. Companies that refuse to answer or give someone the proverbial run round probably do not have the answers. Good luck and I hope that this article can help answer your questions and save you some money.

Recycling Ink and Toner Cartridges

Recycling has taken many forms, as the "go green" movement has evolved. Business owners are now taking recycling and conservation seriously, as their ecological conscience guides them.

One of the newest and cost-productive means of recycling is that of ink and toner cartridges. This has become a viable means of waste management and resource efficiency. Ink cartridge manufacturers are guiding consumers and businesses, in choosing cartridges that will impact waste reduction efforts.

Cartridges are labeled, so that recommended guidelines can be followed. Products labeled as NZ licensed (environmental choice) are highly recommended. EMS labels indicate products that do not equate with maximized impact reduction, and should be avoided. Look for performance guarantees, when purchasing recycled or re-manufactured cartridges; or purchase new cartridges, with recycled contents.

One of the best aspects of recycling ink cartridges is that it is virtually cost-free. Businesses can find recyclers to take their used cartridges, and pay for the shipping. Some of these recycling companies will even pay the business for their waste (check with your local Office Max store). This, of course, is a cost-savings, rather than throwing away cartridges, and then buying new ones. Even better, it is oftentimes cheaper to buy the recycled cartridges back, than to buy a new one. Recycled cartridges have become increasingly less expensive than new ones. The net effect of all of this is that the more ink cartridges are recycled, the cheaper they become, and the more viable the cartridge recycling market becomes. It is a revolving cycle, with many benefits. There are other cost-saving aspects to maximizing resource efficiency, when it comes to ink cartridges. Reducing printing demands, by using electronic means, and using smaller fonts, for space efficiency, are two more options. As fewer cartridges are purchased and used, the fewer products need to be recycled or re-manufactured.

The impact of recycling ink cartridges, on our environment, is monumental. It isn't simply the ink that is being recycled. Plastic and metal waste are being diverted from our landfills. When the plastic casings of the cartridges begin to decompose, poisonous toxins are seeping into our soil and water. Reducing cartridge manufacturing lowers net energy use, which ultimately impacts climate change. Further, reducing the amount of plastic products being used reduces the amount of oil that is consumed. Plastic cannot be manufactured, without oil. Eventually, greenhouse gases are affected, with respect to global climate change.

Recycling ink cartridges is really quite simple and cost-free. Finding a recycling company to take cartridges is not always a necessity either. It is quite simple to refill empty cartridges; and they can be taken into most office supply stores, for refills.

In conclusion, if I were going to give each aspect of recycling cartridges, as a viable conservation alternative, it be as follows, with a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being most prohibitive and 5 being most beneficial):

When it comes to cost to the business, it would be nonsensical to give it anything lower than a 5. If there is a cost anywhere, I can't see it. Again, when it comes to cost-savings, I would have to give recycling cartridges a 5; because it is impossible not to save money, with this type of recycling. When it comes to ease of implementation, I would give a score of 4. There is a small amount of legwork to be done, simply to assess the best method of recycling cartridges, whether it is having them shipped out and then buying them back, or refilling the cartridges themselves. The impact that this type of recycling has, on the environment, requires a score of 5. The impact is so huge, and there is so little that needs to be done, to achieve it.

What Risks Are You Taking With Low Grade Cheap Toner in Your Printer?

An office printer, whether a small individual type or a larger networked version is used in most businesses these days and an essential piece of equipment that is used daily. The costs of printers vary depending upon size and the number of features. After this initial costing the main running costs for an office printer, is electricity and the cost of replacing the toner. This needs to be replaced regularly to make sure there is no reduction in the quality of copies thus wasting paper and ink.

There is a lot of controversy at the moment regarding non-branded cartridges that claim to be 'compatible' with branded printers. It is understandable in the current climate that many businesses, especially smaller ones, would be tempted by these offers, as they are cheaper than branded versions. However, often they are not what they claim to be and can give very poor printing results as well as potentially damage your machine resulting in additional costs for repairs, paper as well as lost time.

I would not risk this. Especially regarding business machines where printouts are needed for deadlines to be met and work to progress. There are many great brands that provide good quality printer inks that achieve excellent results every time, are machine compatible and are great value for money. Plus you will always have the peace of mind that the ink that you use is made for your machine.

The variety of quality toner manufacturers is extensive. The main companies are BT, Brother, Canon, Dell, Digital, Epson, Fujitsu, Genicom, HP, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Lexmark, Konica, Minolta, Kyocera, MITA, Muratec, OKI, Olivetti, Olympia, Panasonic, Phillips, Ricoh, Sagem, Samsung, Sharp, Smith Corona, Star, Tally, Tectronix, Toshiba, Xerox,

I recommend that you always purchase quality ink, produce quality results, and appear professional to clients, or other companies. Making the right impression counts. Brochures or other printed materials are used for marketing, tendering, making quotes, planning out work. A brochure or marketing leaflet can easily be the first impression a potential client receives of the company and contribute to decisions about whether or not you get the deal, or the contract or the sale.

Samsung Toner Cartridge - Cheaper Options For High Quality

Everyone wants to get the best deal. Here, we are talking in context to printer cartridges. People want to pay less and still want high quality of printing. It is not true only for the smaller businesses but also big businesses which use printers. It is not at all incorrect to expect good things in lesser prices, because there is no rule which entails that you need to spend fortunes for high quality printing.

One good way of saving money is to go for generic ink cartridges instead of branded ones. There are ink cartridges available which have been refilled. These refilled ink cartridges are good replacements for the branded cartridges. They are the same in quality as the Samsung toner cartridge. These are not only good in quality but are also available at very low prices.

You can rely on the quality of these refilled cartridges as they undergo numerous tests for quality and only when they pass all these tests are they available in the market. These are sold in the market only when the standards are met or exceeded.

If you order replacement ink cartridges in bulk, there are numerous sites which would offer customers discounts as well as incentives. There are many which also offer discounts on every cartridge that is ordered while there are others which offer perks or bonuses in the form of free shipping.

So, should you buy in bulk? For deciding this, you must consider things like numbers. For instance, offices would obviously have more printers than that are found at home where there may be one or at the maximum two printers. At home, they might not be used very regularly but they are used frequently in office. Therefore, for home use, it may not be wise to buy cartridges in bulk as it would be difficult to use all of them before they reach their expiry while this would be the best option in office as large number of printing is done here and all the cartridges will be used.

Storing these cartridges at room temperature as well as dry conditions will help them last longer.

Use these cartridges with care and they are sure to give you the high quality printing you want.

HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn Toner

The £500 HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn printer has been designed with small work-groups in mind and it has network capability, can print on both sides of paper automatically, and is rated at 20 pages per minute (ppm).

There are two paper trays at the front of the CP2025dn. One is a 250 page drawer and the other opens above it and can be used for different purposes. The front also houses the control panel which you can use to input print jobs and other commands.

USB and Ethernet leads can be connected at the rear of the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn. It was easy to set up although it weighs nearly 53 pounds so you may need some help lifting it. It has four low capacity toner cartridges already installed and all you have to do is peel off some tape from them before you plug the machine in. When connected to a network the printer appeared without any problems.

There were no problems getting the software for the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn installed. You just have to insert the accompanying CD into your computer and do what you are told. The printer will work with Windows operating systems from 2000 and up and Mac from OSX 10.2.8 and, while not provided, Linux drivers are available from HPs website.

The only consumables are the all-in-one toner cartridges, all four of which fit into a single horizontal tray that slides out from behind the front panel. The black cartridge, the CC530A, is rated at 3,500 pages and each of the colours, CC531a, CC532A and CC533A are rated at 2,800 pages. You can save money when using the printer by using non-HP cartridges which are far less expensive.

Print speeds for the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn were more than acceptable at 20 pages per minute (ppm) for mono and colour. Prints are, generally, of a high standard. Mono text proved to be sharp and clear. Colour graphics were bright and stood out from the page.

High quality photo prints could only be produced using high quality paper. On 80gm paper prints were disappointing because of dull reds which resulted in inaccurate combinations of colours such as purple together with noticeable banding. Using higher quality paper produced much better results that were exceptional for a printer this cheap. Prints were sharp and detailed with vibrant and accurate colouring.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced (about £500), compact colour laser printer that prints high quality documents quickly, then the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn should be on your short list. However if you plan on printing a high volume of colour document you will find it is relatively expensive to run, and good quality photos could only be produced using high quality paper.

You can get HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn cartridges here.

Tips to Get Some Extra Life Out of Ink and Toner Cartridges

Whenever anyone is working on a computer, the very thing that one needs right at that time normally runs out without warning. Printers and photocopiers have a nasty habit of letting the operator down at the most inconvenient moments and this is where ink refills and toner refill are needed so that the work can carry on. With these; there is no need for technicians or experts to ensure that the machines can keep on running smoothly.

Indeed, this has been the problem for many years now. Technicians would not divulge the secrets of these machines to protect their work but with the advent of the do it yourself brigade, these mysteries are now explained. People are far more interested in doing their own servicing and save money at the same time.

Of course, filling up these machines means that there is no need to keep up with the consumables that we are used to. Because there is no need for new cartridges every time, it is more economical, plus the 'greens' amongst us think that this is an excellent idea too.

The one thing though that people should ensure though is that they should not let the cartridges run completely dry. If this happens then the resulting performance deteriorates somewhat. Anyone who is conscious of how the machine operates will be able to gauge when it is about to dry up. By noting how many copies have been produced, they will be able to add the relevant materials before it dries out and this will mean a continuous service in the future.

Even color copies can be produced in this way as long as the cartridges are filled up regularly. There are sets of three primary colors which can be used for the cartridges which will certainly produce all the colors necessary. Although many complain that the colors are not true like the original colors, the savings that can be made far outweigh this slight anomaly and many would prefer to save money than get true colors.

If the machine is a particularly busy one, then the savings that can be made by the do it yourself method can be quite large. This is what the printing shops do and the public has really taken this to heart too. Many home printers now operate fully on these methods and this is why more and more people are willing to have a go at it.

Since a lot of schools these days insist on their pupils give in work that has been produced on a word processor, the need to find a cheaper method to produce this work had to be found. Teachers are not being mean; they just find it easier to read typing than trying to decipher thirty sets of homework in varying levels of writing. But this also teaches the pupils to produce neat and ordered work which is a good copy for them to revise on when the exam season comes around. Since artwork is also produced by this method then self fill cartridges become even more valuable.

Brother HL4050CDN Toner Review

For some years the three titans within the printer arena have been Epson, Canon and also Hewlett Packard (along with a certain amount of opposition from Xerox and Lexmark) but lately Brother has set in motion a concerted effort to confront the big boys across the range in both dedicated printers and all-in-one devices.

The most recent 4000 series of laser printers is targeted straight at the small to medium size business market, which always prizes rapid delivery across networked systems. The HL-4050CDN's big sibling, the HL-4070CDW, provides the exclusive feature of actually being the sole wireless network colour laser printer in the marketplace, but if you don't wish to pay out more for the wireless ability, then the HL-4050CDN has all you need for any demanding office environment.

This is a very solid piece of equipment; at approximately 29kg you're going to require a friend to help you transport it in place if you wouldn't like to chance back problems. Once in position, getting it ready from the box is relatively simple. When paper is fed to the paper tray, the software is installed and the connection with the PC is complete, you're all set to go.

The installed printer driver is customized toward your connection, which may be by way of USB, parallel interface cable (and we don't see many of those in recent times!) or perhaps network interface cable. When ready to go (the unit is likewise Mac-friendly), your printing choices are taken care of from the LCD display at the adjustable control panel at the top and also the pleasingly substantial control buttons under it.

This printer is great for presentations, booklets as well as reports, because double-sided output is available as standard. Utilizing a 300MHz processor with 64MB memory (expandable to 576MB) along with up to 2,400 x 600dpi print resolution, you can create as much as 250 pages or double that if you buy a further optionally available tray. Additionally, there is another multi-purpose tray at the front that may be manually fed as much as 50 sheets. The front cover goes down to reveal the drum unit, that is pulled forward and the four Brother HL4050CDN toner cartridges (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) may be slotted in to position.

In terms of speed, you will be contemplating as much as 20ppm for both black and white as well as colour pages which, along with the duplex functionality, is without a doubt exactly why you may be having to pay a little bit more as compared to comparable models from Brother's competitors. Not only is it PictBridge enabled but you may also print directly from a USB flash drive, therefore dispensing with the need for a Computer completely; very helpful if you are hurrying to get that presentation to the boss prior to the deadline.

A rapid, solid workhouse of a printer with USB flash drive, network abilities as well as duplex as standard, hence being ideal for multi-page and multi-faceted presentations and documents.

Brother toner cartridges are available here.

HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Toner Review

The HP LaserJet Pro P1102w hits all of the right bases for any personal monochrome laser. It is small as well as light, it is quick, plus it delivers reasonably high-quality results across the board. It offers improved speed as well as output quality as well as adding WiFi as standard, so you can share it simply.

The P1102w is smaller and also lighter in weight compared to many ink jets - a significant thing to consider if you need a printer that will not occupy lots of desktop space. The P1102w measures just 7.7 by 13.7 by 9.4 inches (HWD) and furthermore weighs 11.6 pounds.

As you may assume from the small size, the unit presents just limited paper capacity, at 150 sheets for the primary tray. That ought to be sufficient for most personal use, nevertheless its just a little below average if you are hoping to use the WiFi interconnection to share the printer between several persons.

Aiding to make up for the low paper capacity is the convenience of a 10-sheet multipurpose tray, that lets you print upon various kinds of paper-checks or letterhead for example - without needing to swap out the paper in the main tray or even manually feed every page utilizing a single-sheet manual feed.

As reported by HP the unit comes with drivers with regard to Vista 64-bit; both 32- and also 64-bit versions of Windows 7, XP, Server 2003, and Server 2008; as well as Mac OS X version 10.4 through 10.6. Additionally, HP states you are able to acquire drivers for "nearly any Linux distribution available today" from HP's Web site.

As with a lot of low-end mono lasers, actual setup is straightforward. As soon as installed, the P1102w functions swimmingly. The engine is graded at 19 pages per minute (ppm), and this even for a personal printer is actually moderate by the current standards. Nevertheless, the actual throughput is a match for other printers having quicker rated rates of speed. I timed it on the organization programs suite at a total of 7 minutes 36 seconds.

The P1102w additionally scored fairly efficiently on output quality. Printed text from the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w toner cartridge was at the lower end of a tight range where many mono lasers fall, but nevertheless within the range. Over fifty percent of the fonts on our textual content test were both readily readable as well as nicely formed at 6 points, and all but one intensely stylised font with thick strokes passed both thresholds at 8 points. Except if you have an uncommon desire for small fonts, or perhaps must print top-quality desktop publishing output, then you should not have any kind of complaints concerning the text.

Graphics quality was completely average with regard to black and white lasers - sufficient for almost any internal enterprise use, yet well below the standard many people would desire regarding marketing materials or other output that should look fully professional. Amongst other matters, I noticed visible dithering as distinct graininess and, in certain images, an undesirable darker band within a solid grey region. The printer also experienced some problems with slender lines, but that's perhaps the most common problem. The P1102w really addresses thin lines much better than many printers.

Pictures were equally typical for monochrome lasers. They're adequate regarding printing Web pages including pictures on them. Based upon how demanding you are, you might consider them adequate for any client newsletter or the like.

Unless you anticipate you'll print substantial volumes the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w's balance of small size, fast speed, as well as realistically high-quality output makes it a more than fair alternative as maybe a personal printer in any size business office or perhaps as a shared printer inside an office with simply two or three people. A Look at Laser Toners

Laser toner is the ink for laser printers. It is an extremely fine synthetic powder (usually plastic) packed into a cartridge. You insert the cartridge into your laser printer according to the manufacturer's instructions. When the printer goes to print a page, there are several steps to the process:

1. The printer receives an image from your computer.

2. Lasers project the image onto an electromagnetic drum.

3. The drum is charged positively and negatively, and at varying levels of charge, according to the image.

4. The drum attracts the four colors of toner in the cartridge according to the charges the colors are attracted to. The four colors mix to create any of millions of colors.

5. The drum rolls the image onto a page of paper, the page goes through a heating device to melt or burn the color onto the page, and the page is ejected.

This process uses up a lot of laser toner. Typically, a laser toner cartridge will yield a few thousand pages before needing to be replaced. The drum, too, eventually wears out from all the positive and negative charges it gives off, and needs to be replaced every 10,000 - 30,000 pages. Some printers are made with cartridge-and-drum replacement units in mind, while other printers are designed to separate the cartridge and drum. This way, when the cartridge runs out of toner, you don't have to replace the longer lasting drum with it. This saves you money.

You can buy laser toner from your printer's manufacturer, a computer supply store, online, or at any of a number of other types of retailers. To save money, you might want to consider buying in bulk.

Three of the most popular brands of laser toner are HP, Brother, and Samsung.

The Benefits of Using a Skin Toner

While cleansing the face is the first step to any skincare regimen, using a toner should be second on the list. If someone forgets it, they really are missing out on the true benefits behind great skincare.

A toner is used after cleaning and before moisturizing. Skin care professionals say that it prepares the skin for product penetration.

After a facial wash, a toner helps restore the skin to a natural pH balance. A pH balance should be right around 4.5. Some cleansing products are reported to hike a pH balance up to 14 which leaves the skin dehydrated and tight. A toner returns moisture back into the skin where it belongs to keep the skin soft and supple. In other words, it's a great hydration element which also nourishes the skin.

In addition to balancing pH and hydration, toner also does other great things, such as:

• Gently improves complexion
• Lessens fine lines and wrinkles
• Reduces inflammation
• Removes oil and dirt
• Wipes away residual make-up

A toner really is the answer to making any cleansing routine more complete. Afterwards, skin feels revitalized and renewed. Because a toner works wonders in removing oil, this makes it a great beauty tool to fight acne. Too much oil fuels acne breakouts.

Hearing the word, "toner" may be confusing for some. Just to clarify, a toner does not firm up slack skin - that's not its purpose.

Toners also come in a host of other different types of names such as:

• Astringent
• Balancer
• Clarifying lotion
• Cleansing water
• Toning lotion

Some manufactures have products which combines both a cleanser and toner in one. Check with a skincare professional to see what product is best -- some may recommend two separate products for each task so it offers maximum benefits.

To have a toner perform its hydrating magic, be sure to choose one without SD and/or alcohol and ethanol. Other ingredients to keep away from are acetone, fragrance, mint, menthol, camphor, and witch hazel. All of these can irritate the skin.

Generally, applying a toner is done by dousing several drops on a cotton ball and then gliding it along the face and neck. Please avoid the delicate eye area.

Speaking of which, if there is a burning sensation after usage, stop using the product immediately and seek the help of a skin care professional to find the right toner.

From dry, normal to oily skin, everyone can really benefit from this skin care product. Using it daily will return a facial canvas to a healthy and luminous state.

How and Why to Use a Botanical Toner

Many people are confused about the purpose of toner.

Toner is used to remove residue from the skin after cleansing. Even after using a cleanser, some residue will always remain on your skin. Toner can swipe this away, and leave the skin clean. Also, much of the water used for washing contains pollutants, and high amounts of chlorine. The water in your home can resemble that of a polluted swimming pool, and this can be harsh on the skin. The effects of these irritating chemicals can cause your skin to be less radiant and soft.

The right toner can remove these elements after you cleanse.

In addition to using toner, installing a shower filter can reduce the amount of irritating chemical residue that is left behind on the skin. You should notice an improvement in your hair and skin shortly after beginning to use a filter. An alternative method is to keep a spray bottle in your bathroom that is filled with filtered, distilled or pure water, and use this to rinse your face, neck and décolleté after cleansing.

A second use for toner is as a mild cleanser after awakening. If you have fallen asleep with clean skin, you need only a mild cleansing when you waken. Toner is ideal for this purpose.

Applying toner provides a good opportunity to give your skin a mild treatment. Many ordinary toners lack beneficial ingredients, and consist primarily of alcohol. A toner that is botanically based can help to calm the skin. In addition to removing pollutants, chlorine, and other residue, a mild, flower-and-plant-based formula can actually improve your complexion.

If you find that using toner once each day is too drying, try sprinkling just a few drops onto a cotton pad that has first been dampened with pure or filtered water. This will deliver a milder effect.

Toner has traditionally been used as a freshener as well. You may even keep your toner in the refrigerator, for use during hot weather. Just soak a large piece of cotton with toner, and sponge your face, hands, neck and body with the fragrant liquid. You may include your feet in this pleasant treatment. Surgical cotton, the kind that comes in a roll, is best for this purpose, since drugstore cotton balls are usually too small.

Using a botanical toner this way can provide you restful and refreshing moments in the middle of a busy day.

What Is the Difference Between OEM MICR Toner, Aftermarket and Remanufactured MICR Toner Cartridges?

What are OEM MICR Toner Cartridges?

OEM, or "original equipment manufacturer" MICR toner cartridges are those which are manufactured by the same company which manufactures the brand of printers in which they are used. Because MICR cartridges are a very specialized type of magnetic ink cartridge, in some cases, printer manufacturers do not manufacture OEM cartridges themselves; instead, the manufacturing may be subcontracted to a qualified manufacturing facility. Like any other type of OEM product, OEM cartridges meet a rigid set of quality standards and specifications to ensure they provide the best printing quality.

Most printer manufacturers encourage consumers to use OEM MICR cartridges from the same company. Hewlett Packard, for example, encourages businesses and individuals using HP printers for MICR check line printing to also use HP-made or endorsed MICR cartridges. The reasoning for this is that HP's OEM MICR cartridges are made according to tight specifications specifically for HP printers. In theory, the printer manufacturer, such as HP, has the best product data and can therefore manufacture better printer cartridges compatible with its own brand than other, non-OEM manufacturers.

What are Aftermarket and Refurbished MICR Toner Cartridges?

Aftermarket MICR cartridges are toner cartridges manufactured by companies not affiliated with the cartridges' printer brand. Any third party manufacturer with the right equipment and resources can manufacture MICR toner cartridges, usually at costs much less than OEM cartridge manufacturers. However, for this reason aftermarket MICR cartridges can range quite widely in terms of quality. Some aftermarket manufacturers may adhere to sloppy specifications and low levels of product testing, while others manufacture cartridges that perform as well or better than OEM MICR cartridges.

One of the reasons some aftermarket toner manufacturers offer significantly lower pricing is because they are able to sell refurbished cartridges. Refurbished cartridges use some recycled components from previously used cartridges, cutting down on both material costs and overall carbon footprint.

OEM vs. Aftermarket MICR Cartridges: Quality Counts

While OEM cartridges are likely the safest bet in terms of product quality, it's not necessarily true that aftermarket and refurbished MICR cartridges can't offer the same quality and performance. Some aftermarket MICR cartridges use a combination of new and recycled cartridge components, offering the best in cost-savings and precision. Having virgin cores is the most important factor for accurate, quality printing, and cartridges made with recycled outer casings and virgin cores offer exceptional value at half the cost of OEM cartridges. The best aftermarket MICR toner manufacturers in the industry use OEM specifications in their operations.

With so many different MICR cartridge brands available, choosing the right manufacturer can be difficult. If quality is a main concern, be sure to research manufacturers' quality standards, facility accreditations and testimonials. Toner manufacturers that are adhering to high quality standards will likely be the most willing to volunteer this information.

How to Print Checks Using MICR Toner

Printing checks in-house rather than purchasing pre-printed checks may be a great way for businesses and individuals to cut costs on office supplies. Small businesses and individuals issuing many checks and bank deposits may find they can print their own checks at a fraction of the cost of buying new check books. Most standard printers are capable of being equipped to print MICR check lines, with the help of a few printer accessories.

Checklist of MICR Printer Add-Ons

Modern improvements in MICR check printing and printer technology have made it possible to print checks in nearly any standard printer brand and model. Large freestanding office printers and home office printer-scanner-copiers alike can be customized to print MICR line data. In order to do so, however, printers not primarily designed to print MICR toner need a few accessories. These add-ons include:

Check Printing Software

High Security Blank Check Paper

MICR Fonts (E-13B)

Compatible MICR Toner Cartridges

Check Printing Software

Most standard accounting software programs, such as Quickbooks and Lacerte, come equipped with check printing software. These bookkeeping software systems are often all the software which is necessary to be able to design, create and print checks. In situations where no other software program is being used, check printing software standalone applications are available specifically for MICR check printing. Check printing must be installed onto the computer from which check printing is being performed.

High Security Blank Check Paper

In order to be considered valid and processable by bank machines, checks must be printed on specialized blank check paper. Check paper backgrounds must contain certain security features, specifically endorsement by the American Banker's Association (ABA), the same organization which wrote the standards on MICR printing. Other check paper security features may include watermarks, fluorescent fibers, copier void feature and rainbow prismatic features. Most office supply stores and online vendors sell blank check paper for check printing.

MICR Fonts

The E-13B MICR Font system, which is the standard MICR font system used by US banks and worldwide, is a hardware add-on which must be installed in order for printers to print MICR check lines. This font package, which is standard, is sold by a number of specialized office supply stores and font/printer accessory online vendors.

MICR Toner Cartridges

MICR toner cartridges are made by both printer manufacturers and third-party, or aftermarket, ink toner manufacturers. LaserJet MICR cartridges can be bought for most common printer models, but they must be compatible with the specific printer model in order to accurately print MICR data. Quality standards vary widely between cartridge manufacturers, so it's a good idea to research more about a MICR toner manufacturer to read their quality standards and testimonials before purchasing from them.

MICR cartridges may be installed in the same way standard ink toner cartridges are installed. Because MICR toner is generally more expensive than standard toner, and because MICR fonts require special installation, printers equipped to print MICR checks are used only for MICR printing.
