Dell 1815dn Toner Based AIO Offers Superior Monochrome Printing, Copying, Scanning, and Faxing

Overview

Combining 4-In-1 functionality with great performance, the Dell 1815dn AIO laser printer is a great choice for home office users and small office environments. Fast print speeds, large paper capacity, and print, copy, scan, and faxing capability make this Dell an attractive device. Anyone who doesn't require color outputs, but is in need of a multifunction laser will be happy with the Dell 1815dn.

Features and Functionality

Speed:

Dell laser printers are known for having fast print speeds and the 1815dn lives up to this reputation. This model can output monochrome laser prints and copies at 27 pages per minute. This type of print speed is more than enough to handle the daily workload in most offices. Documents, presentations, and other print jobs will be available for review in no time when printing with the Dell 1815dn laser printer.

Paper Capacity:

The 1815dn comes standard "out of the box" with a 250 sheet paper tray and a 50 sheet all purpose tray that is part of the ADF or automatic document feeder. Most offices will find this to be enough media capacity for their normal operation. Offices that require more, can add an additional 250 sheet paper tray boosting the paper capacity to 550 pages.

Size:

Multifunction printers typically are larger in size than stand alone printers. The Dell 1815dn laser printer is fairly compact in size considering that it offers full 4-in-1 functionality. This model measures 17.7" wide x 17.2" deep x 18" high and weighs just over 38 pounds. (standard configuration only - no additional paper tray) The 1815dn isn't meant to be moved around on a daily basis, but if the need arises one or two people should be able to do so fairly easily.

Printer Capacity:

The 1815dn ships with 96 MB of memory and can be upgraded to 196 MB if required. Designed to handle the demands of smaller offices, the 1815dn is rated at 25,000 pages of printing per month. (Duty Cycle)

Output Quality:

The Dell 1815dn output quality is slightly above average. This model has a maximum print resolution of 600 x 600 dpi. Copy resolution is the same. The optical scanning resolution is 600 x 1200 dpi. When tested, the monochrome text was legible down to a size 2.5 font. This is better than some of the more expensive black and white laser devices in the same class. Images and text were impressive, clear, and crisp.

Setup:

Physical setup requires the connection of power cable and USB cable. Once connected, users should find it easy to navigate the LCD menu screen that facilitates a new setup. Network setup requires additional hardware, but is easily setup using the LCD screen as well.

Consumables:

The Dell 1815dn toner cartridge is available in a 3,000 page yield standard capacity version (310-7943) as well as a 5,000 page yield high capacity version (310-7945). Use of the high yield 1815dn toner cartridge will lower the printing cost by offering a lower price per print in comparison to the 1815dn standard capacity toner cartridge.

Conclusion

The Dell 1815dn multifunction device is a great machine. Users who don't require color prints and could benefit from a speedy 4-in-1 device are encouraged to check out the 1815dn monochrome laser.
